OhioNET: Simplifying Original Cataloging Workflows with Tools
This online series introduces attendees to the key skills and workflows needed to create original records in MARC21 format. It is designed for individuals who have prior training or experience with copy cataloging practices.
Attendees are strongly encouraged to have access to their preferred cataloging software during these webinars.
The second session in OhioNET’s new Fundamentals of Cataloging series, scheduled for Sept. 22nd from 1:30-3:30pm Eastern, will focus on the wide variety of tools that can be used to simplify original cataloging processes. Attendees will have the chance to explore both software-specific options and general tactics, including but not limited to:
- OCLC derive function
- Constant data/templates
- Copying records
- Text strings
- Formatting issues and fixes

The session will be led by Sarah Schaff. With a background in philosophy and library science, Sarah currently serves as the Discovery Librarian at Denison, a small liberal arts college east of Columbus.
